PITTSBURGH — With Pitt football in the midst of an ACC battle against No. 20 Clemson, the Panthers lost its second-string running back due to an injury.
Daniel Carter ripped off a purposeful 13-yard run on first down at 6:02 in the second quarter. However, Carter remained on the field following the play and received immediate medical attention.
It appeared that the medical staff put an air cast on his right foot as he was then carted off the field to the locker room.
Carter had four touches for 31 yards in the contest up until his injury. He scored the Panthers’ first touchdown of the game on a 2-yard rush.
The sixth-year running back was honored prior to the game for senior day.
Carter has backed up starter Desmond Reid this season as he has recored 18 touches for 177 yards and three touchdowns entering the Clemson matchup. Against Youngstown State, Carter put together a career day with 109 yards and two touchdowns.
The Margate, Fla. native came to Pitt in the 2019 recruiting class and has stuck it out in Pittsburgh over the past six seasons. Carter has totaled 84 carries for 448 yards and nine touchdowns in his career.
With Carter out and running back Rodney Hammond Jr. potentially redshirting, Pitt will most likely turn back to redshirt junior Derrick Davis Jr. as the backup to Reid.
