With its lopsided win over VMI on Monday night, Pitt rose even higher in Ken Pomeroy’s rankings.
The Panthers are now ranked No. 16 overall according to KenPom. Pitt has the 24th-best offensive rating and the 16th-best defensive rating. The only ACC teams ahead of Pitt in his rankings are Duke and North Carolina.
Pitt is one of two teams that is in Kenpom’s top-20 but is not ranked in the AP poll, along with Texas Tech.
Pitt took down VMI 93-48, covering the massive 34.5-point spread. Six players scored in double figures for Pitt, including all five starters and Jorge Diaz Graham, who hit four three pointers (4-4 on his attempts) in the win. Jaland Lowe posted just the second triple double since 1998 for Pitt, following in former Pitt guard Bub Carrington’s footsteps.

Lowe went off for 11 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists in the victory. To clinch the milestone accomplishment, he grabbed a rebound off a VMI airball in the final minutes, dribbled the ball all the way down the floor in transition, and found Diaz Graham for yet another three pointer.
Pitt will now have several days off before it will take on LSU at The Greenbrier in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia. The Panthers will take on the Tigers in the first round, and then play against either UCF or Wisconsin in either the championship or the third-place game of the Multi-Team Event.
We were better than most of the teams in the tournament last season. Looks good for us so far. Can’t ever trust that ridiculous selection system.
