It’s not often that the Pitt football program hosts a 5-star recruit, but it happened over the weekend.

For their matchup against Clemson, Pitt hosted 2025 5-star defensive end Javion Hilson, who is rated as the No. 1 defensive end in the country.

This was made public last night by Hilson with a couple of posts on X.

This storyline is going to make the lead up to National Signing Day in a few weeks very interesting.

The 6’5″, 230-pounder attends Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Florida and Hilson’s position coach in high school is former Pitt Panther defensive end James Folston (Pitt’s Class of 2014).

The fact that Pitt was able to get Hilson to travel for an unofficial visit is a major win and from all appearances, he enjoyed his stay in Pittsburgh.

Obviously, the competition for this elite prospect is large with him adding an offer yesterday from the Michigan Wolverines.

Although PSN has not been able to confirm this with Hilson himself, multiple national recruiting analysts are writing that Hilson’s unofficial leaders are Texas, Texas A&M, Syracuse and Pitt. Other major Power 4 programs that have offered him include Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Penn State and USC.

Hilson has previously made verbal commitments to Alabama and Florida State before re-opening his recruitment.

In today’s age of recruiting, the big question is whether Pitt has the NIL budget to contend with the likes of Texas and Texas A&M and I’m told that won’t be an issue.

The challenge between now and National Signing Day is to try and convince Hilson and his family that Pitt is his best opportunity to get developed and make it to the NFL.

The recruiting push by players in Pitt’s Class of 2025 has already begun with a number of commitments reaching out to Hilson, trying to get him to select Pitt.

Buckle up because it’s going to be an interesting next few weeks.
