Pitt QB Eli Holstein Carted Off the Field Against Louisville

Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein

LOUISVILLE — Eli Holstein returned to the lineup against Louisville after missing the Clemson loss due to injury but wasn’t able to finish the first quarter.

Holstein was sacked by Louisville defensive end Ashton Gillotte on a first down play late in the first quarter, his leg was seemingly caught beneath Gillotte’s body during the fall and it was very quickly apparent that Holstein was in some distress.

Holstein had an air cast on his left ankle as he was carted off the field. Nate Yarnell entered the game in relief.

Holstein completed 3-of-5 pass attempts for 51 yards and an interception before exiting the game.

Holstein has exited three games this season due to injury, and the apparent ankle injury against Louisville is the sort of freakish bad luck that has plagued the second-year freshman this season. It’s likely that Holstein’s season has come to an end.

Pitt trails 10-0 early in the first quarter against Louisville.

**Update: 4:50 PM —

Holstein returned to the Pitt sideline in the second quarter with the help of crutches.

It’s 17-0 it’s only going to get uglier. How much more of Narduzzi do we need to see to finally come to the understanding that he’s an incompetent fool? He should be coaching d3 football. Any coach that starts 7-0 then loses out should be fired end of story. You lose 5 straight to end a season you lost the locker room no other way to spin it. Let’s move on it can’t get any worse.

Sorry to see Holstein hurt again. But he’s is not good. Bonehead.

While we are at it, Baer absolutely SUCKS.

This team is lazy and indifferent to wins or losses.

Time to fire NarDog.

They don’t deserve to go to a bowl game after this epic failure/collapse!

This is a disgrace and Allan Greene really needs to take a real hard look at this program and where it is heading.I cannot believe after starting 7-0 this team just fell of the face of the earth. As Narduzzi likes to say it all starts with him.Well it’s high time someone takes him up on that remark, and start with him being gone

I better not hear losing Holstein as an excuse from Narduzzi. This is the biggest collapse of a Pitt team I can remember. Narduzzi has completely lost the team. Terrrible offense, terrible defense, terrible special teams, terrible coaching. Embarrassed to be a fan.

People are worried about Holstein leaving for NIL money. I’d be more worried about him leaving to play with a real Division 1 offensive line.
