Westinghouse Crushed in State Quarterfinals After Slow Start

For the first time since the 2021 season, Westinghouse football won’t be playing for a state championship come December.

The Bulldogs suffered a 56-15 drubbing at the hands of the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders on Saturday, November 23, bringing their season to an end in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class 1A bracket.

Originally supposed to take place on Friday night, officials postponed the game to Saturday afternoon after snowstorms sweeping Western Pennsylvania left the Marauders unable to make the trip to Farrell.

The delays didn’t seem to throw a wrench in Bishop Guilfoyle’s game plan. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Marauders burned away more than half the first quarter with their first drive, capped by a short touchdown run from Taurean Consiglio. Westinghouse went three-and-out, setting up another Consiglio touchdown tote, and a Bulldogs’ fumble in the waning seconds of the quarter led to a 21-0 Bishop Guilfoyle lead after quarterback Chase Kissell took it himself from eight yards out.

The Bulldogs collected themselves, driving deep into Marauders territory before running out of gas on fourth down, setting up an 88-yard dagger of a pass that put them behind by four touchdowns.

Westinghouse managed to make a game of it, with quarterback Khalil Green connecting with Lloyd Penn and John Bailey on long touchdowns to make it 28-15 at the break, but they couldn’t close the gap any further. The closest they came was early in the third quarter on a would-be pick six that got called back, but from there it was all Marauders, all the way as Bishop Guilfoyle put the Bulldogs away with four second half touchdowns.
