Montour 2025 wide receiver Daniel Batch had his sights set on the University of Maine for quite some time.

After taking a trip up to Orono, Maine this past weekend for a gameday visit, Batch made it official and committed to the Black Bears Monday evening.

“This past weekend was a fun experience and helped me realize its home,” Batch told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Batch received a firsthand look at the football program and school’s culture.

“University of Maine sports are really the only major sports team up there so the fans love to support the team and the team are a bunch of brothers,” he said

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound athlete selected Maine over other Division I offers that included Akron, Toledo, Navy, Towson, Bryant, New Hampshire, Robert Morris, Stony Brook and Fordham.

Getting on the field early was an important priority for Batch and Maine will give him an avenue to do so.

“The biggest thing was the opportunity they give me to affect the team right away. The coaches believe I can help right when i get there,” Batch said.

Maine head coach Jordan Stevens and wide receivers coach John Gardner were instrumental in getting Batch to commit.

Coach Gardner and coach Stevens just really showed how they believe in me and trust me,” Batch said.

When Batch arrives to Maine, he’ll slot in as a wide receiver and could see some action at running back, he says.

The Montour senior is coming of a year in which he recorded 920 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns on offense as the Spartans finished the season 9-2. He also earned second-team all-conference honors. Overall, Batch concluded his high school career with 3,301 total yards and 32 touchdowns.

As Batch now heads into the offseason to prepare for Division I football, he feels like his play will transition well to the next level.

“Fast physical and eager to learn and run new things,” Batch said about his approach. “Feels like it helps in their pass game and some sneaky runs.”

Maine posted a 5-7 record this fall with a 3-5 mark in the FCS Coastal Athletic Association.

During the 2024 season, Maine boasted three WPIAL products in Greensburg Central Catholic defensive back Amari Mack and Canon-McMillan offensive linemen Andrew Kocan and Liam Reamer.
