Star ACC Guard Goes Down, Leaves Game with Knee Injury
On Wednesday, an update was released on Burton’s status via the Notre Dame Men’s Basketball twitter page.
“On Tuesday, November 26, in the Players Era Tournament game against Rutgers, All-ACC guard Markus Burton suffered a non-season-ending knee injury that will hold him out of competition on a week-to-week basis,” the release stated.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how my teammates competed following my injury, and I know they will pick me up and continue to play well,” Burton said in the release. “I look forward to supporting them in any way possible. As in everything I do in basketball, I will attack my rehab and give it my best to get back on the floor at full strength as soon as possible.”
Burton won ACC Rookie of the Year honors last season after averaging 17.5 points and 4.3 assists per game for the Fighting Irish and head coach Micah Shrewsberry.
He had started all five games so far this season as well, and was averaging 21.4 points and 5.2 assists per game so far for the Irish in a hot start to his sophomore campaign. Burton was 1 for 1 from the field in the game against Rutgers on Tuesday when he went down with the injury.
