Pitt has been on the wrong end of some poor officiating this season, and while it isn’t the reason the Panthers have lost four in a row, it does contribute to some of the swings that have occurred this season.
A Rasheem Biles strip-sack in the second quarter, recovered by Boston College quarterback Grayson James, appeared to have Pitt set up for good field position.
A Liam Connor punt from the BC 4 was mishit, traveled just 30 yards and appeared to hit a Boston College gunner on the bounce. The officiating crew decided it hit Ryland Gandy and gave possession back to the Eagles.
The video replay pretty clearly showed the ball didn’t hit Gandy before it hit the BC defender, but the review resulted in the play being upheld.
So, instead of receiving the football in field goal range, the Panthers had to defend the ensuing Eagles possession. James led a short drive that resulted in a punt, so while the officiating miscue didn’t result in any points for Boston College, it potentially took a field goal — or more — off the board for the Panthers.
Boston College punted the ball away on its gifted possession, pinning the Panthers inside their 15 — a 50-plus-yard swing.
Pitt, without Eli Holstein and Desmond offensively, trails 13-0 late in the second quarter, and it’s been a sloppy game — offensively and defensively — for the Panthers. There’s just over a half left in the regular season, and the Panthers will need a spark to hit the eight-win plateau.
Yea, officiating has sucked all year, but Narduzzi, Bell and Bates have sucked more.
Totally….But who in the hell do they have that can play right tackle?Anyone?Anybody?
For a minute, just forget about blaming the coaches. These officials are getting paid more to officiate a game than a lot of us do in a day. Why are they are not held accountable? Who knows if the call went our way the outcome isn’t different. A couple weeks ago the “The official wasn’t ready” call. There is a lot at stake in these games and the calls are wrong. I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but are these sportsbooks fixing the games? With instant replay and all the angles it really makes you wonder. There… Read more »
Happened to ‘Cuse yesterday when Miami scored a late TD where there was a completely obvious motion penalty and the ref staring right at it, but no call & Miami evened the score.
Even the announcers were stunned while mocking the missed call.
Didn’t make a difference in the end, but was not a good look for officials.
Almost as if publicly embarrassing officials has negative long term effects.
Do officials have to get eye tests?
Not just the officials but ACC headquarters too
Firing all of them. New AD new coach.
Pitt can’t get a break from the officials. It’s a disgrace. The ACC should be ashamed. BC is the dirtiest team we faced this year.
With correct officials, we win the Virginia game.
With decent offensive attention to detail (OC), we beat Clemson.
With a few less injuries, we beat BC.
What do you people expect from these ‘good ol’ boys’ from the south? ACC is a joke and Pitt should go independent over it.
Well said. Big 12 is a better league. ACC has it out for PITT and it’s apparent. I never blame officials for any loss but over the years in the ACC we’ve been burned too often. Big 12 is a pretty good hoop league as well. I bet that conference would take the Panthers in a minute. H2P!
Fine them and/or suspend them for bad calls. I’ll bet they get better fast!
H2P!!!
what I dont understand is this call went upstairs with hopefully numerous views…
pretty obvious from one view soooo
