Pitt Star RB Desmond Reid Out for Season Finale vs. Boston College

Published

on

Pitt running back Desmond Reid.

Pitt will be without its best offensive player in its regular season finale against Boston College.

Desmond Reid did not make the trip to Boston College with the Panthers and is out for undisclosed reasons, Stephen Thompson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. It’s obviously a major blow for the Panthers, who are looking to stop a four-game losing streak against the Eagles.

He was hit hard — and often — in the loss to Louisville last weekend, and was attended to by trainers late in the game before walking off the field under his under own power.

Reid has been one of the most versatile playmakers in college football this season, almost single-handedly fueling the offense over the last month and a half.

Reid was named to the midseason first-team All-American team as an all-purpose player by Sporting News, one of the five major All-American teams in college football.

He was named a midseason second-team All-American by The Athletic, received numerous midseason All-ACC honors and was added to the Maxwell Award midseason watchlist, which is bestowed upon the most outstanding all-around player in college football.

Reid has racked up 151 carries for 797 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and four touchdowns and 47 receptions for 564 yards (12.1 yards per reception) and four touchdowns this season — adding a 78-yard punt return touchdown.

He has three 100-yard rushing performances, three 100-yard receiving performances and three multi-touchdown performances. And before the win against Syracuse, he had scored a touchdown in every game this season. He’s a true mismatch.

With Reid out, and Daniel Carter out for the season and Rodney Hammond Jr. choosing to redshirt, Pitt will be rolling with Derrick Davis Jr., true freshman Juelz Goff and redshirt freshman Montravius Lloyd at running back.

Pitt playing without Desmond Reid will make it a whole lot harder for the Panthers to end the regular season with at least eight wins for the third time in four seasons.

Undisclosed reason for missing the last regular season game = Transfer
I’m sure that he’ll look good as a RB in the SEC next year.

Seriously who would want to play for Narduzzi on the hot seat or about to be fired? The team looks uninspired today that’s a reflection on the head coach don’t be surprised to see 70% of the roster in the portal regardless if he’s fired or not. The program is stagnant it’s needs a fresh start. I like the UTSA coach he was a legendary Texas high school head coach well likely end up in the big 12 anyway. Always loved K States coach he has won everywhere he’s gone two guys right there making far less money that would… Read more »

Narduzzi’s seat isn’t even warm. They can’t afford the buy out to fire him. He’s here till at least the last year or 2 of his contract.

I have a feeling we might be looking for a new Offensive Coordinator tomorrow.

Guess that’s 3 players to the portal already then. I’m sure his and Hammonds announcements along with Johnson who already announced and a lot of others that will be coming out in the next couple of days. And I don’t blame anyone for leaving. Pitt proved this year that they are a 7-5 and on a good year 8-4 team. The 21 and 22 seasons were nothing more than flukes. Pitt will fit in much better in a couple of years in the MAC or C-USA. Maybe then they can win 9 games a year regularly. They just don’t have… Read more »

Chuck, do you even have a GED? I read your post three times and it’s a terrible use of the written word.
