Following Pitt’s big win over Ohio State on Friday, Jaland Lowe crashed Papa Amadou Kante’s media appearances with a message for the youngster.

Lowe walked up and stood next to reporters asking Kante questions. When the second-year guard walked up, Kante made sure to let the people watching at home know his thoughts on Lowe with a quick comment.

“He made a big shot, he’s the best player in the country right now,” Kante said, pointing to Lowe.

Then, Lowe was asked if he has any questions for his teammate Kante.

“No, I don’t have a question,” Lowe said. “I wanted to say, Pop, I’m so proud of you on this journey, you were the game changer today, I love you man.”

Kante answered while the two dapped up and hugged.

“Love you too, man.”

Lowe finished as the game’s leading scorer with a career-high 28 points on 9-for-20 shooting. Kante, coming off the bench, finished with 12 points and four rebounds for the Panthers. He did not appear in each of the Panthers’ prior two games.

Papa Amadou Kante Provides Spark for Pitt Against Ohio State

Kante, a 6-foot-10, four-star redshirt freshman big man, was one of the best prospects that Capel has brought into Pitt at the time of his pledge. The Senegal native moved to the United States in 2019, and quickly burst onto the recruiting scene with a strong high-school career at South Kent School (CT).

Preparing for his freshman year last season, Kante injured his knee, requiring surgery. He missed the entire 2023-24 season.

Lowe played in 33 games last season, making 19 starts, and he averaged 9.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game. He shot 39% from the field, 35% from 3-point range and 88% from the free throw line.
