The Duquesne Men’s Basketball Team, playing without Jake DiMichele led by as many as 13 points, but fell 62-59 to Saint Peter’s Tuesday night at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Duquesne (1-7) was led by Jahsean Corbett’s 15 points, while Chabi Barre set his career high with 13 points in 19 minutes, besting his previous high from the Nov. 26 game against Old Dominion at the Cayman Islands Classic.

Saint Peter’s (4-3) saw Mouhamed Sow nearly achieve a double-double, with his 11 points and nine rebounds. Two teammates joined him with 11 points as Bryce Eaton and Marcus Randolph both achieved double figures.

The Peacocks won the rebounding battle 42-37.

It was a quiet start for Duquesne as it missed its first four shots from the field, before Kareem Rozier settled the offense in with multiple three-point baskets.

Duquesne spent an early timeout after both teams were tied at six as it appeared Dru Joyce III was unhappy with a transition which saw Sow put down a dunk.

Saint Peter’s remained in front after the stoppage, but Barre’s insertion provided the Dukes with some juice. His presence led to an alley-oop as Rozier spotted a mismatch in the Peacocks defense.

After this basket, Saint Peter’s responded but, following this basket, it would be held scoreless for the next 6:45 of game action.

Duquesne would score the next 11 points and Matus Hronsky utilized a defender trying to respect his three-point shooting ability, by blowing by him for a layup. This activated a Peacocks timeout.

Coming out of the timeout, Corbett found Cam Crawford in transition and the latter made a move, before finishing for a high-percentage shot. The basket gave Duquesne a 13-point lead, its largest of the half.

For last 5:15 of the first half, Saint Peter’s made its run, to the tune of a 13-2 edge, trailing 28-26 at halftime.

Duquesne used its passing effectively in the first half as evidenced by seven assists on its first 10 made baskets.

Both teams jockeyed for position in the second half, with Duquesne’s lead a single point at the first media timeout.

A triple from Tre Dinkins III put the Dukes head by three later in the half, but a 6-0 Saint Peter’s response flipped the score.

Duquesne had a reply but a deep three-point field goal from Marcus Randolph, with a Dinkins hand in the air put the Peacocks up by four points.

Hronsky brought some pop back in Duquesne’s offense and then Barre in the post found Corbett briefly placing the Dukes back in front.

With both teams tied at 47, Saint Peter’s scored five consecutive points to distinguish itself on the scoreboard.

The Dukes experienced some struggles making consecutive free throws, splitting shots, which stopped some of its response.

Duquesne found a brief remedy with its free throw inconsistencies when Maximus Edwards sank a pair but a Rozier foul on a three-point shot, brought Saint Peter’s lead back to three points.

Both Rozier and Barre each split free throws separating the teams by a single point, when Eaton found Sow for a three-point field goal.

Duquesne came up empty on its next possession and fouled going back on transition in order to prevent a basket.

The game came down to the final play as Saint Peter’s did not create enough separation from the free-throw line.

Rozier rebounded a Sow miss and heaved a shot, but it fell long.

Duquesne’s next contest is a Friday night home game against Delaware, slated to tip at 6 p.m. with ESPN+ the place to view the broadcast.
