A guard on Pitt’s women’s basketball roster has been dismissed from the team.
According to a press release sent out on Wednesday night, less than one hour before the City Game against Duquesne, Pitt basketball head coach Tory Verdi announced that Bella Perkins, 5-foot-9 senior guard, has been dismissed from the team.
Perkins scored 26 points in Pitt’s most recent game, a loss to Northern Iowa. She went 10 for 15 from the field in that game and 6 for 6 from three-point range.
Perkins had played in all nine games for the Panthers (5-4) this season, but she was the only player out of 12 players to record stats this season to not start a single game. She was averaging 7.8 points per game so far this season for the team on 38% from three-point range.
Pitt is now down to nine players at the moment, with Amiya Jenkins and Lauren Rust out with injuries.
Perkins committed to Pitt out of the transfer portal in May 2023. She played two seasons for the USC Trojans from 2021-23, playing in 35 games and starting six, averaging 2.9 points, 0.8 assists and 11.7 minutes per game. Perkins only played in 10 games last session, with most of her playing time coming in her first season in 2021-22, playing in 25 games with those six starts.
