Pitt’s win over the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Backyard Brawl is now a Quad 2 win, as WVU dropped outside of the top-30 in the NET rankings.
Back in mid November, the Panthers beat West Virginia 86-62 at the Petersen Events Center.
In the initial NET rankings, West Virginia was in the top-30. A top-30 win at home equates to a Quad 1 win. However, now, the Mountaineers — despite not playing since their win over Arizona last Friday — have dropped outside of the top-30 due to other teams moving up. Darian DeVries’ squad is now ranked No. 33 in the NET rankings, making Pitt’s record in Quad 1 2-1 (wins over LSU and Ohio State) and Quad 2, 1-0, with the win over West Virginia. You can find the full NET rankings here.
Pitt’s resume is likely to change every day with the NET system — as teams rise and fall dramatically each day, especially early in the season. Stay tuned on Pittsburgh Sports Now for more updates on Pitt’s resume. The Panthers are still ranked No. 5 in the country in the NCAA’s NET rankings.
In the win over WVU, Pitt’s Damian Dunn finished as Pitt’s leading scorer with 23 points on 7-for-12 shooting. He knocked down a team-high four three pointers in the win, earning his first 20-point game of the year. In addition, Ishmael Leggett added 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Pitt’s two leading rebounders in the win were Guillermo Diaz Graham and Jaland Lowe, who grabbed ten and nine, respectively. Big man Cam Corhen added 14 points and five rebounds as well, going 5 for 8 from the field and hitting his first three pointer of the season.
