On Wednesday night, Pitt lost by 33 points to Mississippi State.
As you can imagine, the Pitt fan base had some things to say about the game.
While the Panthers only dropped seven spots in the NET rankings, the loss showcased some faults of Pitt’s, and showed just how much better Mississippi State is as a team. Let’s look at how the fans reacted to this one.

“Miss. State was noticeably bigger and stronger; but especially when the opponent is bigger you need to play more physically on defense/boards and they didn’t and just got pushed around. No inside threat on O or D.” – John M. Donnelly
“Sometimes u need to lose to like this learn.. good game film for them to get ready for conference play. I will say we do lack some serious size inside” – Lorenzonick

“Energy was blah right out of the gate. Poor shot selection. Killed on the glass. Too many contributors looked lost tonight. BUT if we win at VT and finish this stretch 3-2 with a double digit win, we forget about this. Have to win the next 5. No way around it.” – David Waruszewski

Last week, the Panthers opened up at No. 5 in the country in the NET rankings. Now, with a 30-point loss to another high-major opponent, they have dropped in the rankings. But, they haven’t dropped very far.
Pitt is now ranked No. 12 in the NET rankings after the loss to Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 10 in the country, jumping 16 spots with the win over Pitt.
The quad-1 loss shouldn’t hurt Pitt too much on paper. However, the Panthers will need to quickly rally together to beat Virginia Tech, once again on the road, to finish off this road trip. Pitt will have to address its rebounding deficiency against the Bulldogs, and improve in that department going forward.
Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech will tip off at 2 p.m. on ESPNU.
