Pitt’s offseason priority of attempting to improve their 2025 offensive line continued on Thursday.
Panthers offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau spoke with and extended an offer to Princeton graduate transfer offensive tackle William Reed. He’s the second transfer offensive lineman this offseason to receive a Pitt offer. Western Carolina offensive lineman Derek Simmons was the first and will be making a visit next week, Dec. 12-13

“I talked with Coach D and we had a good talk,” Reed told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I know he talked with my offensive line coach before talking with me. Coach D told me that they’re looking to fill a spot at right tackle and that there’s some flexibility at left tackle but mostly the right side. Honestly, I don’t mind either position. He said that they need to fill one spot in order to make things click. He believes they have the weapons and just need that one spot to make everything click.”
Since entering the portal on November 25th, Reed has received offers from Pitt, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Virginia, Stanford and Arizona.
Reed started 19 games for the Tigers and played in 24 games, totaling 1,028 snaps. He’s a former three-star OL from Sammamish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic in the Class of 2021 and was originally a commit to California.
“I had no idea what to expect when I entered the portal,” Reed said. “I always believed that I had the talent and potential to play and compete against some of the best players in the country. I went in not really expecting anything but with that being said, I’m obviously grateful and blessed to be in the position that I’m currently in. I’m probably getting a bit more attention than I expected.
“I was saying this to Coach today, it’s really been hectic now for me because currently it’s my final week. So, next week when I’m able to be at home to plan out with my family where I want to go and the timing of things. I’ll have a better idea of things.”
Reed told PSN that he has scheduled a visit to Arizona next week and that a bulk of his other visits will take place after the holidays. Along with Arizona, Reed will also travel to Stanford, but a date hasn’t been finalized yet.
“As I go along, I’m really trying to evaluate the schools that will be in the running for me, and I think Pitt is definitely up there. I would guess that I’m probably going to be visiting there in January. Them and Virginia most likely.”
Although he admits that this could change, Reed said that the current plan is to make his decision at the end of January or in early February. The talented offensive tackle also detailed what he’s going to be looking for in his next football home.
“Having a coach that I can connect with is big for me,” said Reed. “Not someone to be buddy, buddy with, I need someone that knows me as a person and as a player. Someone that is going to push me to be my best, someone that is pretty intense and passionate. I think that I’m someone that can thrive off some hard coaching. Intensity, passion and I want a place that with a winning culture. Then obviously, looking for a place that’s looking for me to come in and be a guy for them.”
