Pitt escaped Blacksburg, Virginia on Saturday with a five-point win after trailing for most of the game.
The Panthers, down seven with 5:19 to play, needed someone to step up and will them to a victory. Jaland Lowe was that player today.
After two free throws from Ishmael Leggett, Lowe drained a three pointer after starting the half 0-3 from deep. He then knocked down a layup for the Panthers, answering two free throws from Virginia Tech’s Tobi Lawal. Following free throws from Guillermo Diaz Graham and Lawal, Lowe then scored the next six points of the game, extending Pitt’s run to 15-3 in the final 5:19. Lowe finished with 11 of those 15 points, including the final six of the game, and a total of 19 points in the game.
The sophomore guard had lofty expectations placed upon him after a stellar freshman campaign. He has lived up to all of them through ten games.
With the win over Virginia Tech, Lowe and the Panthers wrapped up a nearly 20-day road trip that led them to The Greenbrier, Columbus, Ohio, Starkville, Mississippi, and Blacksburg, Virginia. In that five-game span, Lowe played at least 35 minutes in every game.

Lowe is a star. Without Damian Dunn in the lineup due to his thumb surgery, Lowe has stepped up, along with his back court mate Ishmael Leggett, and taken on a massive role. The pair has led this team to an 8-2 start, and, regardless of how it looked for 35 minutes, a 1-0 start in conference play.
