Following a win over Virginia Tech, Pitt basketball fell from its No. 11 ranking down to No. 17 in the NCAA's NET rankings.

Pitt is currently 8-2 on the season, ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll, and ranked in the top-20 of the NET rankings.

All things considered, life seems to be good for Panther fans and those inside the program regarding this team’s first ten games. However, the team still dropped in the NCAA’s NET rankings after it beat Virginia Tech on the road.

After the win, Pitt fell from its No. 11 ranking down to No. 17 in the NCAA’s NET rankings. In the first NET rankings of the year, Pitt was ranked as high as No. 5 in the country. Houston, Maryland, Clemson, Iowa State, and Kansas have all jumped ahead of Pitt in recent days.

With the win over the Hokies, No. 18 Pitt improved to 8-2 on the season. The Panthers will now return home to face Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Pitt currently owns a 1-2 record in Quad 1 — with a win at Ohio State and losses to Wisconsin and Mississippi State. In Quad 2, Pitt is 2-0 with wins over West Virginia and LSU. In Quad 3, Pitt is 3-0 with wins over Radford, Murray State, and Virginia Tech. In Quad 4, Pitt is 1-0 with a win over Gardner Webb.

The Panthers have four more games on the schedule before they face their next quad 1 opponent, which will be Duke, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Jan. 7. The Panthers also have projected Quad 1 opportunities against Clemson at home, against North Carolina on the road, against Louisville on the road, and against SMU on the road. ACC teams Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Miami are all coming to play in Pittsburgh this year. However, after lackluster starts to the season for those four teams according to the NCAA’s NET rankings, those are projected to be Quad 4 opportunities.
