Pitt safety Donovan McMillon became the first player in program history to record back-to-back 100 tackle seasons since Scott McKillop did in 2007-2008, and with that productivity and play, the senior will draw plenty of interest from around the professional ranks.
McMillon will have the opportunity to showcase his talent at the Hula Bowl on Jan. 13 in Orlando, Fla. after accepting his invite, Pitt football announced on Monday.
The Hula Bowl offers seniors the chance to compete against some of top players in the country in front of NFL, XFL, USFL and CFL scouts at UCF FBC Mortgage Stadium.
McMillon spent two seasons with the Panthers, becoming an instrumental part of the defense.
During his senior campaign, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety posted a team-high 108 tackles, along with eight passes defender, one forced fumble and his first-career interception coming against Kent State. He was selected as a Second-Team All-ACC member.
In his first year with Pitt, the Peters Township product quickly became a starter, playing in all 12 games while notching 105 tackles, a half tackle for loss, one pass breakup and one forced fumble.
Prior to joining his hometown team, McMillon spent two seasons with the Florida Gators. He appeared in 25 games during his time in Gainesville, Fla., while totaling 30 tackles.
Coming out of high school, the WPIAL product from McMurray, Pa. was regarded as a top-15 safety prospect from Rivals and 247Sports. McMillon was a consensus four-star recruit that helped Peters Township reach consecutive 5A WPIAL title games.
McMillon joins senior tight end Gavin Bartholomew, wide receiver Konata Mumpfield and kicker Ben Sauls to accept invites to senior bowl games. Bartholomew will compete in the prestigious Reese’s Senior Bowl, while Mumpfield and Sauls accepted invited to the Shrine Bowl.
