With the win, the Pitt Panthers shot up five spots in the NET rankings up to No. 11, after being ranked No. 16 before the game.

On Wednesday night, Pitt took down Eastern Kentucky with a dominant second-half effort that included a 23-0 run.

After leading by just three points at halftime, Pitt outscored the Colonels 57-20 in the second half to win by 40 points, 96-56. With the win, the Panthers shot up five spots in the NET rankings up to No. 11, after being ranked No. 16 before the game.

Pitt is currently 9-2 on the season, 1-0 in the ACC, 2-1 on the road, and 1-1 at neutral sites (The Greenbrier). The Panthers hold big wins at Ohio State, Vs. West Virginia, at Virginia Tech, and Vs. LSU so far this season.

The Panthers will now have some much-needed time off before their next game on Dec. 21 against Sam Houston State.

Check out this article from the NCAA explaining how the NET rankings are calculated. This season is the seventh year in a row that the NCAA is using the NET rankings instead of the RPI rankings.

“The remaining factors [in the NET ranking process] include the Team Value Index (TVI), which is a result-based feature that rewards teams for beating quality opponents, particularly away from home, as well as an adjusted net efficiency rating,” said the NCAA. “The adjusted efficiency is a team’s net efficiency, adjusted for strength of opponent and location (home/away/neutral) across all games played. For example, a given efficiency value (net points per 100 possessions) against stronger opposition rates higher than the same efficiency against lesser opponents and having a certain efficiency on the road rates higher than the same efficiency at home.”
