Pitt Extends Offer to Big All-CAA Elon Defensive End

Pitt defensive end target Cazeem Moore.

Pitt needs help at defensive end, and while there have been a lot of offers extended to offensive linemen and wide receivers, the latest went to an All-CAA defensive end.

Pitt was the latest school to extend an offer to Elon defensive end Cazeem Moore — a 6-foot-5, 255-pound rising senior from Vanceboro, N.C. The Panthers joined an offer sheet that includes Georgia Tech, Colorado, Rutgers, USC, Wisconsin, Cal, San Diego State, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, USF, Virginia, Texas Tech, Cincinnati and Memphis.

Moore earned second-team All-CAA honors for his play this season, capping off three stellar seasons with the Phoenix.

Moore was the top pass rusher at Elon this season, leading the Phoenix with 38 pressures, 26 hurries and six quarterback hits. According to PFF, he had a 13.1% win rate in rushing the passer this season. He was credited with 51 tackles (27 solo), 12 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles and a pass breakup.

He’s a big, powerful defender off the edge, and he’d fit well in the Pitt system, but he’s going to be in high demand this offseason. If Pitt is serious about acquiring him, the coaching staff will need to land him on an official visit.

Pitt is set to lose Nate Matlack, and while Nate Temple is up in the air, there’s still a need at defensive end. Jimmy Scott, Sincere Edwards and Chief Borders form a solid trio, but the Panthers could use a true impact edge out of the portal.
