Pitt is working to improve its offensive line next season, and while the Panthers added four linemen from the high school ranks, the immediate improvement will come from the transfer portal.
Pitt is hosting visitors this weekend, including offensive line targets, but the coaching staff is continuing to extend offers and the latest comes from a standout MAC performer.

Alex Wollschlaeger — a 6-foot-7, 305-pound rising senior from Aurora, Ill. — picked up an offer from Pitt Thursday, adding to an offer sheet that includes Florida State, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Northwestern and Kentucky.
It’s safe to say Wollschlaeger is in high demand at this point in his recruitment.
Wollschlaeger is one of the rags to riches type of stories. He was initially rated a two-star recruit out of high school by 247Sports, receiving just one offer from BGSU. But this time around, he’s rated as the 33rd-ranked recruit in the portal — second-ranked offensive tackle.
He played 773 offensive snaps for Bowling Green last season, all at right tackle, and according to PFF, he allowed just 15 pressures.
In five seasons at Bowling Green, with three starting seasons over the last three seasons, he’s recorded well over 2,400 starts. And almost everyone has come at right tackle. He’s a seasoned, well-regarded offensive tackle.
With the schools coming for Wollschlaeger, it will be difficult for Pitt to land his services. But he’s exactly the sort of offensive tackle that the Panthers could use.
Pitt lost Branson Taylor to injury this season, which forced Ryan Baer from right tackle to left tackle, and it opened a massive hole on the offensive line. Lyndon Cooper and BJ Williams are set to return at center and guard, respectively, but Pitt needs to upgrade.
The Pitt coaching staff is looking to upgrade its starting unit and supplement its depth. Wollschlaeger would be a major addition.
