Is Jaland Lowe a top-10 player in college basketball? Ken Pomeroy's KenPom.com thinks the Pitt guard is one of the best.

Jaland Lowe has been an elite guard for Pitt this season.

The Missouri City, Texas native is averaging 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game so far through 11 games. He is playing 34 minutes per game compared to last year’s 26 minutes per game, and has improved his averages across the board.

Lowe has received plenty of attention for his early-season play, and rightfully so. Now, he is receiving more attention, this time from the analytics-based Kenpom.com. Ken Pomeroy’s site has a Player of the Year Standings section, and Lowe was recently listed as a top-10 player in those standings. Check them out below.

Lowe has been spectacular late in games for the Panthers this season and last. Specifically, against Virginia Tech, Lowe drained a huge, late three pointer after starting the half 0-3 from deep. He then knocked down a layup for the Panthers, answering two free throws from Virginia Tech’s Tobi Lawal. Following free throws from Guillermo Diaz Graham and Lawal, Lowe then scored the next six points of the game, extending Pitt’s run to 15-3 in the final 5:19. Lowe finished with 11 of those 15 points, including the final six of the game, and a total of 19 points in the game.

Jaland Lowe Impresses with Late Takeover Against Virginia Tech

Early in the season, Lowe was named “one of the best NBA prospects in the ACC” by national analyst and scout Adam Finkelstein.

National Analyst: Jaland Lowe ‘One of the Best NBA Prospects in the ACC’

“One of the best, I think, NBA prospects in the ACC. Someone who is, I think, going to have a huge breakout sophomore season — that doesn’t sound like such a hot take after he started the year with 21, six, five, and three, with zero turnovers, or something absurd like that…”

Finkelstein spoke more about his first time watching Lowe at Peach Jam years ago.

“…I think that last year we saw an idea of what he could look like,” Finkelstein continued. “Not initially, because he had a little bit of a preseason injury, but later in the year, when he got in the starting lineup and in ACC play, in particular, the numbers really told the story…”
