The visit to Pitt comes amidst a busy schedule for the 6-foot-4, 266-pounder as he will also take trips to Houston, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State beforehand, while visiting Mississippi State and UNLV in the following days. He also plans to visit South Carolina with that date still to be determine.

The veteran lineman officially entered the portal as of Dec. 13 with two years of eligibility remaining.

Boone is coming off a redshirt junior season with the Gators in which he appeared in the first 11 games, recording 10 tackles, half a sack, two tackles for loss and one quarterback hurry.

In 2023, Boone was expected to have a breakout season but suffered a torn ACL in training camp that ended his season.

As a redshirt freshman, the Sumter, S.C. native appeared in 13 games, starting two as he produced 24 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry. The year prior, he played in just two games before redshirting.

Of note, Boone played two seasons with current Pitt safety Donovan McMillon and former wide receiver Daejon Reynolds before the pair transferred to Pitt.

247Sports rates Boone a an 86 three-star transfer and lists him as the 22nd-best edge in the portal. Out of Sumter High School, he was a four-star prospect and the second-best edge rusher out of South Carolina.

Pitt is certainly in the market for an edge rusher with Kansas State transfer Nate Matlack graduating after one season, along with David Ojiegbe entering the transfer portal.

Starter Jimmy Scott and true freshman Sincere Edwards are expected to make a big impact next season as the projected starters at the end. Chief Borders will be next in line on the two-deep, but other than that, Pitt is looking to fill a need off the edge and Boone would help fulfill that.

Along with Justus Boone, Pitt is reportedly hosting Western Carolina quarterback Cole Gonzalez from Dec. 18-19.
