Following the transfer of two players from the 2024 roster, the Pitt Panthers are in need of a veteran quarterback to backup returning starter Eli Holstein.

Redshirt freshman Julian Dugger and incoming freshman Mason Heintschel will be on the roster next season but as we saw this year, experience is needed so Pat Narduzzi and Kade Bell are working on that.

Since taking over as offensive coordinator, Bell has gone out and brought in a few players, such as Desmond Reid, CJ Lee and Raphael Williams, that are familiar with him and his system.

Reportedly, Bell is looking to do it once again, this time to fill Pitt’s need at quarterback.

Both Redshirt Sports Transfer Portal and @SleeperCFB are reporting that Pitt will be hosting Western Carolina quarterback Cole Gonzales on an official visit this week.

Gonzales announced last week his intentions to enter the Transfer Portal and has received offers from both UTEP and Charlotte.

The former first-team All SoCon selection has thrown for 6,682 career yards and 51 touchdowns in 3 seasons at Western Carolina. Gonzales is the son of Florida Gators wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales.

This past season, Gonzalea (6’0″, 195-pounds passed for 2,543 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2023 with Bell as offensive coordinator, Gonzales threw for 2,803 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Per Redshirt Sports Transfer Portal, Gonzales will be visiting Pitt this coming Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a trip to Charlotte on Friday and Saturday.
