For the second year in a row, Pitt has lost a freshman defensive lineman to the NCAA transfer portal.
Last year, it was Samuel Okunlola who joined Deion Sanders at Colorado. This morning, multiple outlets are reporting that Sincere Edwards has made the decision to leave Pitt.
The 6-foot-2, 245-pound former four-star recruit from Apopka, Fla. was one of a handful of Pitt freshmen who burned their redshirts by playing in more than four games.
As part of Pitt’s defensive end rotation, Edwards collected 17 tackles and three sacks. Make no mistake about it, this is a loss for Pitt but it’s college football in 2024.
Considering his size, athletic ability and potential to get to the quarterback, expect Edwards to get major interest.

Taking a look at the defensive end depth chart, Pitt will enter 2025 with Jimmy Scott and Chief Borders (and likely Nate Temple) as the only experienced defensive ends. The coaching staff will certainly dip into the transfer portal to add to the room, and there’s potential for young players to rise through the ranks.
