It’s hard to take any bowl games — outside of the College Football Playoff — too seriously anymore, but that doesn’t change the fact that the ACC is going through a rough bowl season.
The only ACC team to win its bowl game so far is Syracuse, a 52-35 win against Washington State in the Holiday Bowl, and the conference is 0-10 against the spread through 10 games.
According to Brad Powers, it’s the worst bowl season for any conference.
The ACC lost both of its CFP appearances, which hurt the national brand, and the non-CFP bowl games haven’t gone much better. It’s important to take the results with a grain of salt, looking at Pitt with its fourth-string quarterback and Miami losing star quarterback Cam Ward in the second half of the Hurricanes’ bowl game.
Louisville, Duke and Virginia Tech are the ACC’s last chances this bowl season. With a 1-9 record as it stands, a 4-9 finish would be a dream finish.
Again, the bowl season isn’t what it used to be, but with the extra eyes on the games, if the ACC wants to help its national brand, wins are the way to do so.
