Pitt offers D-II All-American Rashan Murray.

A local Pittsburgh City League product and Division II All-American is receiving interest from the Division I level, including his first Power Four offer from his hometown team.

Rashan Murray — a 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back out of University Prep — spent the last three years at the California University of Pennsylvania, and on Friday, he picked up an offer from Pat Narduzzi and the Pitt Panthers.

“It feels great,” Murray told Pittsburgh Sports Now on receiving an offer from Pitt. “Who wouldn’t want to get an opportunity to play for their hometown team?”

This past fall, Murray was tabbed as a Second Team All-American from the Associated Press and the Don Hansen Football Committee. He was also named First Team All-PSAC and First Team All-Region.

It comes on the heels of an impressive season for the cornerback as he totaled 18 passes defended — tied for second in the nation, along with 14 pass break-ups, a career-high 39 tackles, four interceptions and two tackles for loss in 13 games.

Since entering the transfer portal in December, Murray has stacked up plenty of offers from programs such as Sacramento State, Buffalo, UTEP, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), New Mexico State, Youngstown State, Mercer, Monmouth, Bryant, Robert Morris and others. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

During his sophomore season with the Vulcans, Murray appeared in 10 games, recorded 31 tackles, six pass break-ups and a forced fumble and recovery. In his first season with the program, Murray played in nine game, making eight tackles and one pass break-up.

Murray is an important target for Pitt, not only as a local product, but the Panthers are in need for depth at the cornerback position.

Pitt recently saw starter Ryland Gandy and backup Tamarion Crumpley enter on the transfer portal on Monday, marking four scholarship cornerbacks that have departed from the program so far this offseason.
