After receiving major interest in the transfer portal, a pair of WPIAL football products have landed at new programs at the Power Four Level.
In the span of a day, redshirt seniors Marques Watson-Trent from Blackhawk High School and Deamontae Diggs out of McKeesport High School have committed to Power Four Programs.
Watson-Trent has committed to Nebraska, while Diggs has landed at Florida State, both according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Watson-Trent — a 5-foot-11, 225-pound linebacker — earned offers from West Virginia, Florida State, Memphis and Nebraska while in the portal. He visited with the Cornhuskers on Jan. 3 and quickly turned in a commitment not long after.
The WPIAL football product is coming off an impressive season with Georgia Southern in which he won the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a Conference First Team selection. He posted 120 total tackles (52 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
He has recorded three-straight seasons of 100-plus tackles. In 2023, he recorded 13 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Diggs lands at Florida State after starting his career at Youngstown State and then spending a year at Coastal Carolina. He picked up a handful of offers in the portal, but after a visit with the Seminoles on Jan. 2, he decided to commit.
Diggs — a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive lineman — played in all 13 games for the Chanticleers this season, posting 35 total tackles (18 solo) with 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. On3 rates him as an 86 overall three-star in the portal.
Prior to Coastal Carolina, Diggs played in 23 games at Youngstown State between the 2023 and 2022 seasons, totaling 26 tackles, six sacks and four tackles for loss.
