On Saturday evening, Pitt will host Stanford in an ACC battle at the Petersen Events Center.
Let’s dive in to the game preview.
PITT’S OUTLOOK
Pitt is firmly in the NCAA Tournament field, according to most bracketologists. The Panthers opened the new year with a strong win over California despite Ishmael Leggett missing the game with an ankle injury that he suffered in practice a few days before the game. Jaland Lowe starred for Pitt, leading with 27 points, while Cam Corhen went off for 19 points and 11 rebounds in the winning effort. Beebah Cummings once again made a big impact off the bench to the tune of 15 points. Now, Pitt faces a Stanford team that has lost twice to mid-major schools already this season. However, the spread against the Cardinal is a bit tighter than it was for the Panthers against Cal.
STANFORD CARDINAL (9-4, 1-1 ACC)
HEAD COACH
Kyle Smith (1st Season)
STANFORD
Stanford has a big three of Maxime Raynaud, Jaylen Blakes, and Oziyah Sellers. Raynaud is the major player here. The 7-foot-1 center has an array of post moves that he likes to use, including a fadeaway jumper, a floater over the top of smaller defenders, and numerous moves that get him to the basket with ease. He can also step out and hit threes, as he is shooting 35% from deep with 21 makes. Blakes, the Duke transfer, doesn’t shoot the three as well, but is a talented scorer.
Sellers is the team’s leading three-point shooter at 38% from downtown.
