Pitt CB Tamon Lynum Returning to Pitt in 2025

Tamon Lynum flashed his potential at times during his first season in Pittsburgh, and he’s running it back for Year 2.

Lynum — a 6-foot-2, 190-pound cornerback from Orlando, Fla. — announced this week that he will return for his second season at Pitt in 2025, which is a major boost to a secondary that took a hit with Ryland Gandy entering the transfer portal.

Pitt picked up commitments from Ohio State transfer safety Jayden Bonsu and California (Pa.) transfer cornerback Rashan Murray on Saturday, but Lynum is as important a “pickup” as anyone.

He’s in line for a major season with the Panthers in 2025.

Lynum originally committed to Nebraska as a three-star out of Evans High School in 2020, and he immediately emerged as a special teamer as a true freshman. He redshirted in 2021, suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4 of the 2022 season and emerged as a solid depth corner in 2023.

He entered the portal before the spring season last year, arrived at Pitt and carved out a solid role in 2024. He recorded 435 defensive snaps this season, the third most of Pitt corners, and racked up 36 tackles (22 solo), two tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and seven pass breakups.

According to PFF, he limited opposing quarterbacks to just 57.5% completion, allowing 275 yards and a touchdown on 23 receptions.

He was perhaps the most physical Pitt cornerback this season, and his size and length bode well for an increased role next season. Lynum will be relied upon more heavily.

Pitt lost Gandy, along with depth cornerbacks Noah Biglow, Tamarion Crumpley and Jaremiah Anglin Jr., so it’s a unit that’s going through some upheaval. Lynum, Rashad Battle and Shadarian Harrison appear poised for serious playing time, and Murray adds another piece to the picture.

Lynum was CB3 this season, but he has the chance to emerge in a major way in 2025.
