Former Pitt linebacker Jordan Bass is returning to his home state after committing to another Atlantic Coast Conference program.
Bass — a 6-foot-4, 215-pound rising junior from Hampton, Va. — committed to Virginia Tech Tuesday evening, he announced on X.
The Phoebus High School product entered the transfer portal after two seasons at Pitt and fielded offers from USC, Virginia Tech, NC State, Kansas, UNLV and Norfolk State before ultimately returning home to play for the Hokies.
Bass joined Pitt as a four-star recruit out of high school and originally selected the Panthers over Virginia Tech, along with North Carolina, Virginia and Boston College.
At Phoebus, Bass starred as a wide receiver and safety, leading his team to consecutive Class 3 championships. During his senior year, he caught 58 passes for 1,535 yards and 30 touchdowns, while adding 88 tackles and 10 interceptions. He was named a First Team Class 3 All-State selection
As a true freshman at Pitt, Bass saw immediate action in 10 contests and started one game. He totaled 11 tackles and two tackles for loss.
This past season, Bass was limited to nine games after suffering a season-ending injury. He compiled 14 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack as a backup linebacker.
On3 ranked Bass at the 473rd player in the transfer portal and the 37th-best linebacker.
