The Pitt Panthers finished up their massive week of high school recruiting by extending an offer to one of the top young talents in the WPIAL and the state of Pennsylvania.

Hopewell Vikings 9th grade quarterback James Armstrong received huge news this morning as he picked up his first D-1 scholarship offer, and it comes from the hometown Pitt Panthers.

This is a huge accomplishment because it’s rare for a 9th grader to receive an offer from a Power Four program and it’s even more uncommon for a 9th grader quarterback. However, it’s not surprising if you know Armstrong and are familiar with his skillset.”

“This means a lot to me,” says Armstrong. “When I was younger, Coach Bokor, who is a former Pitt player, so the Pitt brand always rubbed off on me.”

“Going to games, I love the atmosphere there and the Pitt coaches. I also have known Mr. LaSala since I was 5 years old and him being there is an amazing connection to have.”

This past season for the Vikings, Armstrong was 91 of 187 for 1,372 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. On the ground, ‘Boo Boo’ rushed the ball 205 times for 746 yards and 14 touchdowns. This performance earned him a 1st Team All-Conference honor.

The left-handed quarterback has a rifle for an arm and can accurately throw the ball 50+ yards. What makes him dangerous is his ability to run the ball and take on contact because of his large frame. I’m not comparing him to this player but for anyone that isn’t familiar with his game, Armstrong plays a similar game and has a skillset like Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in that he can run by you or over you.

Armstrong becomes the first WPIAL player in the Class of 2028 to receive an offer from Pitt. Now that his first offer is in, look for his recruitment to skyrocket over the upcoming months.
