With the departure of a few quarterbacks this offseason via the transfer portal, a big priority in the Pitt class of 2026 will be to rebuild the depth at that position — and bring in a highly talented player.

A player who would fit that description was in town on Saturday as a guest at Pitt’s Junior Day.

2026 four-star quarterback Gavin Sidwar made a return visit to Pitt and spent some quality time with offensive coordinator Kade Bell. Sidwar (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) is from La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Pa. He’s available once again after de-committing from Rutgers in late October.

After opening back up his recruitment, Sidwar has heard from many programs, including Pitt, which extended him an offer on March 4.

“When coaches were allowed back in high schools, coach Bell was the first one to visit me. He told me I was at the top of their board, and I was the first QB he was visiting in my class,” Sidwar told PSN in June.

That relationship continued to grow on Saturday as Sidwar spent the day with Bell and the Panthers staff.

“It was a great visit overall,” said Sidwar. “The highlights were visiting with Coach Narduzzi in his office and hanging with Coach Bell at the basketball game.

“My family and I met with Coach Narduzzi. It was a good conversation. He’s really confident with the direction of the offense and the pressure it can puts on defense. He thinks my style of play would be a perfect fit. As far as Coach Bell, he’s confident in his abilities. He understands how important the quarterback position is. He knows he needs a guy and wants to build the offense around him.”

Sidwar and his family have connections to the Western Pa. area, and he even wears the No. 7 because of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

“My dad’s parents grew up on the western side of the state, so he spent all his holidays out there as a kid,” Sidwar said. “He was raised as a Pittsburgh pro sports fan. He always says to me that Pittsburgh is a great city when the recruiting topic comes up.”

At this stage of this recruitment, Sidwar holds offers from Pitt, Duke, Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, South Florida, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

“It was a great visit. We spent an extra night in Pittsburgh to get a feel. We met a family friend in Southside afterwards. They are definitely in the mix.”
