Over the weekend, Pitt football hosted numerous recruits for Junior Day as the Panthers were looking to build a foundation with those in the upcoming classes.

One of the recruits was 2026 wide receiver Ben Whitver from Powhatan High School in Virginia, who left with a positive impression on the offensive staff.

“It was a great experience to be at Pitt over the weekend. The hospitality from all the coaches was great,” Whitver told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I talked to basically every coach on the staff and all of those conversations went really well.”

Whitver – a 6-foot-2, 185-pound three-star prospect – spent time talking to the Pitt staff, including wide receivers coach JJ Laster, as he learned more about the offense.

“What stands out to me is their offense,” Whitver said. “Their offense is one of my favorite offensive styles.”

At Powhatan, Whitver has thrived on the outside and possesses excellent speed and ball skills. During his junior season, he compiled 52 receptions for 1,004 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Whitver believes his skill set matches what the Panthers are looking for and he could see himself fitting into the offense.

“I can see myself fitting at their X position,” he said. “My play style is really do it all. I can run efficient routes. I can catch 50-50 balls. I outrun people. I block.”

While Pitt has yet to offer Whitver, he has already racked up several Division I offers, including Penn State, UNLV, UMass, Liberty, East Carolina, Charlotte, Buffalo, Old Dominion and Norfolk State.

Rivals.com rates Whitver as a 5.6 three-star recruit. He ranks as the 15th-best player in the state of Virginia and the 93rd overall receiver in the 2026 class.

Up next, Whitver will visit Buffalo and East Carolina for their respective Junior Days.
