Pitt Star Not Included in Two Recent NBA Mock Drafts

Jaland Lowe has turned himself into a star college basketball player, and has drawn the attention of NBA scouts just over one year into his collegiate career.
Lowe has had NBA scouts watching him at several games this season, and has popped up on NBA mock drafts throughout the past year or so. However, in two recent NBA mock drafts — one from Bleacher Report and one from USA Today — Lowe was not included among drafted players.
Lowe is having an excellent sophomore season for Pitt, averaging 17.2 points per game (8th in ACC) and 5.9 assists per game (3rd in ACC). The Missouri City, Texas native ranks tenth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.1.
Early in the season, Lowe was named “one of the best NBA prospects in the ACC” by national analyst and scout Adam Finkelstein.
“One of the best, I think, NBA prospects in the ACC. Someone who is, I think, going to have a huge breakout sophomore season — that doesn’t sound like such a hot take after he started the year with 21, six, five, and three, with zero turnovers, or something absurd like that…”
Finkelstein spoke more about his first time watching Lowe at Peach Jam years ago.
“…I think that last year we saw an idea of what he could look like,” Finkelstein continued. “Not initially, because he had a little bit of a preseason injury, but later in the year, when he got in the starting lineup and in ACC play, in particular, the numbers really told the story…”
