On3 Sports Ranks Pitt Portal Class Among Worst in the ACC

On3 Sports doesn’t feel like Pitt has one of the better transfer portal hauls in the ACC, ranking the Panthers 13th in the conference. There are 17 teams, for reference.
There are some things to note, though.
On3 lists Pitt as having eight transfer portal additions, missing four players in interior offensive lineman Keith Gouveia, cornerback Rashan Murray, safety Kavir Bains and kicker James London.
And the 19 portal exits include four walk-on players, too. So, it’s not unfair to say there hasn’t been a whole lot of research done.
It’s not as if the Panthers have added a bunch of four- and five-star recruits from the portal, but the work in the portal certainly hasn’t been bad. The On3 poll, according to the site, “utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools.”
The “proprietary algorithm” determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same or declined in talent during the transfer window.
There isn’t any nuance used by On3 considering the Panthers secured just about every one of its impact performers from last season. Alliance 412 did a good job in locking up guys like Eli Holstein, Desmond Reid, Kyle Louis and Rasheem Biles.
And when looking at the the exits, the only real losses are Sincere Edwards and Jordan Bass. And Edwards is likely the only exit who had a legitimate chance to start next season. So, it’s not as if the exits have severely hurt next season’s prospects.
The top five portal classes for On3, perhaps unsurprisingly, are Miami, Virginia Tech, SMU, Duke and Florida State.
