Robert Morris (12-7, 4-4 HL) made history in their 89-67 comeback victory over the Green Bay Phoenix (2-17, 0-8 HL) at the Resch Center on Friday night. The Phoenix led by as many as 17 points in the first half but were outscored by the Colonials 49-22 in the second half which included a 28-0 run in route to the program’s sixth largest comeback victory.

While it is unconfirmed, the 28-0 run that the Colonials went on to open the second half is believed to be the largest scoring run in program history. While the Colonials scored an impressive 28 points over the first 10 minutes of the second half, their defense held the Phoenix offense to zero points over 10-plus minutes of game time during that stretch.

The Colonials saw five players hit double-figures in the win over the Phoenix with Amarion Dickerson and Kam Woods leading the way with 20-point games. Dickerson scored a game-high 22 while Woods poured in 20. Alvaro Folgueiras added 13 points and seven rebounds, Ryan Prather Jr. posted 11 points on a 5-of-6 shooting night and D.J. Smith scored 10.

The game started as well as it could for Doug Gottlieb’s Green Bay squad as they jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead. Their advantage grew to as many as 17 points when the score became 27-10 at the 12:47 mark of the first half. The Phoenix managed this impressive start behind Marcus Hall as he started the game 4-of-4 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point range.

Following a 14-2 run from the Phoenix, the Colonials turned to Woods to get the offense going and he went on a personal 6-0 run to pull the Colonials back into the game. The Phoenix answered with five-straight points but Woods’ streak appeared to give Robert Morris some life.

The Colonials used their newly found momentum to go on another run which happened to be a 9-0 run that was capped off by a three from Prather Jr. as they brought the deficit back down to single-digits as the score was 32-25.

The Phoenix responded with a layup from Ben Tweedy and a three from Preston Ruedinger that pushed their lead back out to 12 points but that did not kill the Colonials as later in the half they went on a 7-0 run that brought the Phoenix’s lead down to just three.

The Phoenix went to the half with just a five-point advantage after leading by 17 but all of the momentum sat with the Colonials which they used to their advantage to start the second half.

The Colonials opened the second half on their 28-0 run which lasted over the first 10:33 of the half. The historic run helped the Colonials claim their first lead of the entire game and more importantly, it helped them build a lead that was too great for the struggling Green Bay team to overcome.

The Phoenix stopped the bleeding on a goaltending call at the 9:27 mark of the period but were already down by the score of 68-47 by the time of that bucket. The Colonials cruised to the finish line as they led by as many as 25 points in the second half.

Hall’s team-high 17 points paced the Phoenix in the loss to the Colonials. They also received 13 from Jeremiah Johnson despite him battling early foul trouble in the contest. No other Phoenix player surpassed the double-digit point plateau in the loss.

The Colonials will stay in Milwaukee as they prepare to take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in another tough Horizon League matchup on Sunday.
