Duquesne MBB Unable To Keep Up With Dayton

As time wound down in the first half of Tuesday evening’s Duquesne Men’s Basketball contest against Dayton, Jahsean Corbett held the ball at the top of the key waiting for his moment to attack.
Instead, Corbett turned the ball over and Malachi Smith was fouled with five-tenths of a second left on the shot clock.
It summarized a first half in which the Dukes conceded its most points leading to an 82-62 setback.
Duquesne (9-10/4-2 Atlantic 10) saw Tre Dinkins III post 14 points, the lone Dukes player to achieve double figures. The Duquesne bench did outscore its counterparts 27-9.
Dayton (13-6/3-3 A-10) had Enoch Cheeks record 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Javon Bennett added 16 before fouling out and Amael L’Etang also contributed 16 points. Smith earned nine assists.
In total, the Flyers had 13 three-point baskets, which was one away from matching a season high.
The first half was unorthodox as the first 8:26 saw points entirely scored by the three-point shot. Both Cheeks and Nate Santos found their form from deep in this early period as Dayton got the better of this stretch.
Duquesne was unable to keep up as evidenced by shooting three-for-eight with four turnovers from the under-16 minute to the under-eight media timeouts.
The first “let’s go Flyers” chant came with 4:52 remaining in the first half.
Dayton led Duquesne 44-25 at halftime, powered by a 9-for-13 effort from three-point range.
Early returns in the second half were positive for Dayton evidenced by four threes before the first media timeout.
Meanwhile Duquesne had multiple reserves with a hand on their face and miscommunications after which players displayed similar body language.
Dayton continued to rotate its lineup and comfortably held on in a game where it never trailed.
Duquesne will begin a two-game road trip Sunday at Fordham. Rams coach Keith Urgo will not be available for the contest as Fordham self-imposed a four-game suspension for recruiting violations. Former Pitt Panther Tray Woodall will be taking his place as the bench boss.
