ACC News and Notes: Louisville Dominating, Blue Blood Struggling

The ACC has been a wild conference this season, with regular contenders struggling and recent low-level teams dominating.

Let’s dive in to the main stories in the ACC this week, while Pitt has been off, awaiting its game against Syracuse on Saturday.

NORTH CAROLINA – WHAT’S WRONG?

The Tar Heels are now 12-8 on the year and just 5-3 in ACC play after losing two-straight games. Hubert Davis’ team lost to Stanford at home on Saturday, as former Duke player Jaylen Blakes hit the game winner. Then, on Tuesday, UNC lost to Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, 67-66. In the loss, RJ Davis scored 21 points and Elliot Cadeau had 14. However, the rest of the team combined to go 13 for 39 from the field. As a team, UNC hit just 25% of its three-point attempts in the loss.

LOUISVILLE CAN’T LOSE

Louisville is on a nine-game winning streak right now under first-year head coach Pat Kelsey. The Cardinals are tearing through the ACC, and on Tuesday, they picked up a signature win at SMU. Louisville led wire-to-wire in the game, winning 98-73 as Reyne Smith dropped 30 points on ten three pointers.

WAKE IS ON FIRE

Wake Forest is 10-0 at home this year, 7-1 in the ACC, and 15-4 overall. However, the Demon Deacons aren’t even mentioned in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology as a bubble team. The Deacons have won six in a row, headlined by the win over North Carolina. We should learn more about the Demon Deacons over their next three games, as they will take on Duke, Louisville, and Pitt.
