Former Pitt linebacker Jordan Bass, who transferred to Virginia Tech earlier this offseason, was charged with two criminal offenses earlier this month.

Bass — a rising junior from Hampton, Va. — was charged with DWI and a civil violation for under-21 marijuana usage on Jan. 18, per state records, as shared by Tim Thomas of The Tech Lunch Pail. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Thomas shared a statement that Virginia Tech released regarding Bass:

“Virginia Tech is aware of an incident involving football student-athlete Jordan Bass. As this is a legal matter, we will abide by university policy and have no further comment until the process is complete.”

Bass entered the transfer portal on Dec. 20 after two seasons at Pitt and received offers from North Carolina State, Norfolk State, Kansas, UNLV and USC upon entering the portal. He committed to Virginia Tech on Jan. 7.

Bass was the top-ranked recruit in Pitt’s class of 2023, arriving as a consensus four-star recruit out of Phoebus High in Virginia, and there was an expectation that he’d be able to make an immediate impact.

He played in 10 games during his true freshman season, earning his first start in a loss to Wake Forest.

He played in nine games this season before suffering an injury, recording 115 snaps — down from 116 snaps last season. He recorded 14 tackles (nine solo), four tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup.

He finished his Pitt career with 25 tackles (15 solo), six tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup.
