Huge 2027 OT Picked Up Pitt Offer During Junior Day Visit

Pitt offensive line target Grady Holmes

Grady Holmes isn’t exactly on the clock yet as a recruit in the class of 2027, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t being prioritized by college coaches either. Pitt is certainly in the mix.

Holmes — a 6-foot-9, 290-pound offensive tackle from Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass. — was one of the ’27 recruits in town for Junior Day over the weekend, his first time in Pittsburgh, and he left with an official offer.

“It’s very important,” Holmes told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “Obviously, I know it’s a big-time program, so I’m just blessed.”

Pitt is now one of several schools to extend an early offer, along with Central Michigan, ECU, Purdue, Syracuse and West Virginia. And it appears his recruitment is picking up.

Holmes received an offer from Pitt to come down for Junior Day right before the event itself, and it was the first time he had really communicated with the coaching staff — so, of course, it was his first time in Pittsburgh.

And it went well. The class of 2026 might be the next class up, but Holmes was able to continue building a connection with offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau, who extended the offer.

“Me and him already have a pretty good relationship, and he just seems like a very nice guy — honest dude,” Holmes said. “He says, obviously he’ll push me if I go over there. He’s gonna push me, but we’re gonna have some fun, too.”

Darveau sees Holmes as an offensive tackle at the college level, which makes sense considering his massive frame. Holmes is coming off a sophomore season at Tabor in which he didn’t allow a single sack in nine games. He’s often a larger-than-life presence at the end of the line.

The major recruiting services (247Sports, Rivals and On3) haven’t ranked Holmes yet, and that isn’t a surprise considering he’s still quite a ways from his recruiting class stepping into the spotlight, but his recruitment is starting to pick up.

He’s hearing a lot from the schools that have extended offers — with half of those offers coming in the last few days.

Pitt has made an early impression, and while it’s still early in his recruitment, there’s the potential for much more in the coming months. He’s already talked to Darveau about a return visit for a camp in June.

“I love it,” Holmes said. “Obviously I’m not gonna do anything yet, but it’s a serious program and I’d love to be back.”

Pitt just turned its attention to the class of 2026, so Holmes and his fellow ’27 recruits have some time to wait, but he’s an early target for the Pitt coaching staff.
