Pitt has kicked off its class of 2026 with a bang, securing its quarterback of the cycle.

Pat Narduzzi put out a “Pat Signal” early Tuesday morning, and Angelo Renda — a 6-foot, 180-pound three-star quarterback from Southlake Carroll in Southlake, Tx. — has revealed himself as the commitment. He announced his decision on social media Tuesday night.

Renda committed to Pitt over offers from Jacksonville State, SMU and UTSA — and interest from schools like Boston College, Duke, Oklahoma State and TCU.

“I love the coaches,” Renda told Pittsbugh Sports Now. “I love the atmosphere. I’ve been to Pittsburgh a bunch in my life; I really love it. I love the coaches, coach Bell and coach Bronowski came to my house a couple of days ago and I just wanted to lock it in. They’re some good dudes, good coaches, and obviously coach Narduzzi has been there a long time. Won a lot of football games. I want to win a championship, and this is the greatest team to do that with.”

Pitt extended Renda an offer earlier this year, straight from offensive coordinator Kade Bell himself, and Bell and tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski stopped by his high school to see him on Tuesday.

Renda was dominant as a junior, leading Southlake Carroll to a 15-1 record against some of the best competition in the country. He completed 257-of-360 pass attempts for 3,901 yards with 40 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, adding 667 yards (7.0 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

247Sports rates Renda as the 72nd-ranked quarterback and 113th-ranked recruit from Texas. Neither Rivals nor On3 have ranked Renda yet, but with his commitment — and electric junior season — that’s going to change.

Renda isn’t the biggest quarterback, which likely held back the major players down south, but he’s a dynamic athlete who fits the mold of a Pitt quarterback perfectly. He’s tough, gritty and makes plays.

He’s the first commitment, nearly a year away from National Signing Day, but he’s built a strong bond with the coaching staff and put his faith in an early believer.

“Whether they had a commit before me or two commits, I don’t think it really matters because I really like them, but being the first one, not a lot of people can say they were the first one in the class,” Renda said. “So, for me to have that opportunity, it’s awesome, I get to lead the way and bring a lot of guys with me.”
