Former Pitt WR Enters the Transfer Portal for Second Time

Former Pitt wide receiver Myles Alston has hit the transfer portal for the second in search of the final location of his collegiate career.

Myles Alston — a 6-foot-1, 180-pound graduate transfer wideout from Virginia Beach, Va. — announced his portal entrance on Thursday, following two seasons at Old Dominion. He initially spent two seasons at Pitt, after arriving as a recruit in the class of 2021.

Alston didn’t play much during his first season at ODU, but he emerged as a starter this season. He hauled in 23 passes for 246 yards — the most productive season of his college career.

Alston committed to Pitt in 2020, choosing the Panthers over a list of finalists that included Appalachian State, Liberty, Maryland, Ole Miss, Virginia and Wake Forest — and additional offers from Charlotte, ECU, UMass, North Carolina, South Carolina, Temple and Virginia.

Alston appeared in seven games for Pitt in 2022, not recording any stats as a reserve wide receiver and special teamer. He redshirted during the 2021 season, not seeing the field after enrolling early.

Alston finally broke out this season, which was a long time coming considering he wasn’t able to play his senior season at Ocean Lakes High due to COVID-19. And then didn’t play much during his first few seasons.

He has one season of eligibility remaining, which he’s looking to utilize at a place where he will see the field as often as possible.

Kenny Johnson is the lead Pitt wide receiver slated to return (even if he hasn’t officially announced he’s returning yet), but there are a lot of question marks outside of him. Poppi Williams and Censere Lee Jr. would likely start if the season started today (and Lee was healed from his season-ending injury).

Tyreek Robinson has a lot of potential in the slot, and Zion Fowler-El is in the mix at either of the outside receiver spots. The true freshmen have an opportunity, too, but if the receiving corps is to bounce back from a disastrous second half, it will likely be because of the transfers.

Pitt has added Florida State transfer Deuce Spann, Florida transfer Andy Jean and Louisville transfer Cataurus Hicks this offseason.
