Hopewell Bowling Team Wins 1st Ever Southwestern Sectional Title!

ALIQUIPPA– For the first time in program history, the Hopewell High School Bowling Team has won the Southwestern Section Title!

This afternoon at Sheffield Lanes, the first place Vikings took on the second place Montour Spartans.

The importance of today’s match was that if Montour won, the Spartans and Hopewell would likely share the section title. However, a Vikings win would get them the title all to themselves and that’s exactly what happened as Hopewell completely dominated today’s match.

To win, you need to win 2 of the 3 games and that’s exactly what Hopewell did winning the first game 1,019 to 785 and then the second match 1,975 to 1,622.

Getting the start in the opening two games were Daniel Earley, Max Butter, Ayden Gault, Brayden Mowry, Aidan Heppner and Reese Jacobs.

Here’s a look at the scorecard from the 3 games:
Gault- 386 pins (didn’t bowl Game 3)
Butter- 616 pins
Mowry- 446 pins
Heppner- 616 pins
Earley- 620 pins
Jacobs- 148 pins (didn’t bowl Games 1 and 2)

A big congratulations to freshman Max Butter who rolled the best game of the match today with a career-high 274 pins. There was a stretch today that Max just rolled strike after strike. Nice job Max!

Here’s a look at some of the action this afternoon.

After the section winning match, Vikings Sports Now spoke with head coach Stan Magusiak along with Daniel Earley and Max Butter.

Hopewell runs its 2024-25 record to 8-0 with a match next against Ambridge on Wednesday and then their final regular season contest against Naz Prep.

By winning the section, Hopewell gets a 1st-round bye in the Regional Tournament, which takes place after the WPIAL Tournament.

Congrats Hopewell and keep it going!
