Pitt won the game at Syracuse, 77-73, behind a big second half from Jaland Lowe and company. The Panthers improved to 13-6 overall and 4-4 in ACC play with the victory. The Panthers dropped from No. 32 in the NET on Saturday morning to No. 36 after the game. However, Sunday’s results around college basketball moved the Panthers back up to No. 34.

Check out this article from the NCAA explaining how the NET rankings are calculated. This season is the seventh year in a row that the NCAA is using the NET rankings instead of the RPI rankings.
“The remaining factors [in the NET ranking process] include the Team Value Index (TVI), which is a result-based feature that rewards teams for beating quality opponents, particularly away from home, as well as an adjusted net efficiency rating,” said the NCAA. “The adjusted efficiency is a team’s net efficiency, adjusted for strength of opponent and location (home/away/neutral) across all games played. For example, a given efficiency value (net points per 100 possessions) against stronger opposition rates higher than the same efficiency against lesser opponents and having a certain efficiency on the road rates higher than the same efficiency at home.”
The Panthers took down West Virginia 86-62 at home back on Nov. 15, 2024 in the beginning of the season. Pitt then beat Ohio State on Black Friday 91-90 on a game-winning three from Zack Austin.
Pitt currently owns a 1-6 record in Quad 1 games, a 3-0 record in Quad 2, 4-0 in Quad 3, and 5-0 in Quad-4 games.
As of this morning, Pitt is 1 of 21 teams in the country with 0 losses outside of Quad 1.
