Pitt forward Cam Corhen had a big game against North Carolina in the Panthers’ win.

Corhen played 28 minutes in the win for Pitt, scoring 14 points. He knocked down five of his six field-goal attempts and four of his five free-throw tries, while grabbing five rebounds. However, his defensive impact was perhaps the most impressive part of his performance on Tuesday night.

“Cam was unbelievable,” Jeff Capel said. “To sit down and guard RJ Davis, to make him take contested shots.”

Corhen has more than held his own this year in isolation situations defensively. According to Synergy, when guarded by Corhen, opponents in isolation situations are just 3 for 15 from the field (20%). That includes two plays against the Tar Heels — one in which Elliot Cadeau made a difficult layup over the out-stretched arm of Corhen, and one in which Davis missed a step-back three pointer.

“Cam gives us a guy that he can switch,” Capel continued. “That’s what they did at Florida State, so that’s really what he’s used to. The stuff he’s had to learn is our ball screen coverage. The hard hedge, or if we’re in drop, or things like that. That’s the part that’s been difficult for him. So, a game like today, where we decided we’re just going to switch, that kind of played to his strength. He had a big-time finish late in the second half. That’s huge for us, but his ability to switch and guard perimeter guys is big.”

Corhen scored 10+ points for the third-straight game in the win over UNC. Check out his offensive highlights from the game below.
