WPIAL OL Jimmy Kalis Turning into ‘National Recruit’

In the business of recruiting, there are different levels of Division I recruits, all of which are impressive.
Some high school recruits are lower D-I players, some are lower D-I/mid-Power Four players, some are Power Four players and others are national recruits.
When I say national recruits, I mean the players have the potential to get recruited and offered by nearly every major Power Four program in the country.
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs don’t recruit the WPIAL often but when they do, the player they’re pursuing is obviously a national recruit.
Central Catholic 2027 offensive tackle Jimmy Kalis is someone PSN has been reporting on ever since he received his first D-I offer from Pat Narduzzi and Pitt. Since then, the 6-foot-6, 285-pounder has picked up Power Four offers from Arizona State, Cal, Duke, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Penn State, Syracuse, UCLA and West Virginia.
Yesterday, Kalis received his biggest offer to date as he had a conversation with head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia.
“I was at a workout in Georgia and Kirby Smart flew in on his helicopter,” Kalis told PSN. “During warmups, I talked to him briefly and after the agility stations, we had a water break. During the break, Coach Smart came up to me and told me how impressed he was with me and how I need to come back for a visit. Then, right after we ended our talk, he officially offered me a committable scholarship.”
It goes without saying that receiving the opportunity to play for one of the best college football programs in the country is something that gets a player’s attention.
“This is huge offer and means a lot just to have a coach like Kirby Smart believe in you,” said Kalis. “I’m super grateful to be able to grind and just continue to perfect my craft.”
Considering he’s only a sophomore, the recruiting journey for Kalis is literally just beginning but it’s likely to get even more hectic following the news from Georgia. Kalis realizes this but is ready and looking forward to the next two and a half years.
“My recruiting is starting to heat up right now, but my main focus is just to continue to get better at my craft, get faster, stronger and do what’s best for my team,” Jimmy Kalis said. “My family and I are taking it week by week, but we’re all enjoying the process.”
