ACC Losing Another Legendary Head Basketball Coach

The ACC continues to lose its longtime coaches.
On Monday, longtime head coach Leonard Hamilton of Florida State men’s basketball announced that he will retire at the end of the 2024-25 season.
“I am deeply thankful for the tremendous support of our fans, alumni, and everyone associated with Florida State throughout my time here,” Hamilton said. “I am proud of the quality of the young men that it was my privilege to lead, for their faith in this program and in their belief in the philosophy that we tried to instill in them over the years. I have been blessed beyond words for the opportunity and the experience we’ve had here.”
This comes after longtime ACC coaches Jim Larranaga (Miami) and Tony Bennett (Virginia) both stepped down in the past year. Bennett in October just before the season began, and Larranaga in December.
Hamilton is in his 23rd season as head coach of the Florida State Seminoles. Prior to his time in Tallahassee, he was the head coach at Oklahoma State (1986-90) and Miami (1990-2000). Hamilton has won 656 games in his coaching career, and is a two-time Big East Coach of the Year and a three-time ACC Coach of the Year. He most recently won ACC Coach of the Year in the 2019-20 season, in which FSU finished 26-5 and won the ACC Regular Season Championship.
The ACC has now lost the following longtime coaches in the past five years: Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Tony Bennett, Mike Brey, Jim Larranaga, and Leonard Hamilton.
Current Pitt forward Cam Corhen played for Hamilton for the past two seasons at Florida State before transferring within the league to Pitt.
