Pitt head coach Jeff Capel called tonight’s loss to Virginia embarrassing and apologizes to the fans.
“Really disappointed in our performance. This is as bad of a performance that I’ve coached.”

This is the most embarrassed I’ve been after a Pitt loss in the Capel era i think
These players are making way to much money to come out and play like shit from the jump/completely quit with your backs against the wall coming into this game
Everybody needs held accountable

Entering tonight, Virginia was 2-7 in games away from home — with the losses coming by an average of 18.3 points.
They just went into Pitt and knocked off the Panthers by 16. Panthers have now lost six of their last eight games — with trips to UNC and SMU up next.

Embarrassing stuff out of Pitt. What happened to that team?

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel on the loss to Virginia:
“We didn’t play with any passion, any toughness, any connectivity.”

Pitt getting boatraced 73-57 at home by a bad Virginia team should be a scarlet letter for its at-large purposes for the remainder of the season. Can’t lose that game in that spot by that many points.

Just a horrendous Quad 3 home loss to NET #134 Virginia, and by margin, that will surely put a major damper on all seven metrics for Pittsburgh.
Pitt goes from squarely on the bubble to at least four teams out pending other results.

A 10-12 record with an interim head coach did NOTHING to discourage Virginia and its staff. An inspiring performance by Ron Sanchez and the Cavaliers. And a damaging loss for Pitt, who just took a Quad 3 loss.

Might be time to tell Pitt to get out of my tournament

Remember back in November when people legitimately thought Pitt was good?

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel on what needs to change in terms of effort and toughness:
“I’m open for anything right now… What we’re doing right now is not good enough.”

Pitt falls to 14-8 on the season with the loss to the Cavaliers — who were previously ranked No. 134 in the NCAA NET rankings. This was a Quad 3 loss for Pitt, and a Quad 1 win for Virginia.
Ishmael Leggett finished with 17 points for Pitt, while Jaland Lowe followed with seven points on just nine shot attempts. Damian Dunn, Cam Corhen, and Zack Austin each scored five points. Jorge Diaz Graham came off the bench and hit three of his six three-point attempts to finish with nine points.
Pitt finished the game with just 21 rebounds to Virginia’s 33. The Cavaliers scored 28 points in the paint, while Pitt scored just 18 points of that variety. Both teams had eight steals. Virginia tallied 20 assists in the win, while Pitt only had assists on five baskets of its 18 made baskets.
In the second half, Pitt’s rebounding struggles, as well as their offensive struggles, continued. The Panthers could not buy a bucket, and Virginia’s shooters kept hitting their attempts. The Cavaliers ran away with the win behind Dai Dai Ames and Isaac McKneely, while Pitt finished the night — a 16-point loss — with ten turnovers and a 41% shooting percentage.
Pitt now travels to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina on the road. That game will tip off on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m.
