What’s Next for Pitt Basketball?

PITTSBURGH — Pitt basketball fell to 14-8 overall and 5-6 with a Quad 3 loss to Virginia on Monday night.
While the season may feel over to fans after the disappointing loss, the Panthers still have nine games remaining. Here is how the rest of the Pitt schedule stacks up.
Feb. 8 @ North Carolina – 4 PM
Feb. 11 at SMU – 9 PM
Feb. 15 Vs. Miami – 12 PM
Feb. 18 Vs. Syracuse – 7 PM
Feb. 22 @ Notre Dame – 2:15 PM
Feb. 25 Vs. Georgia Tech – 7 PM
Mar. 1 @ Louisville – 6 PM
Mar. 5 @ NC State – 7 PM
Mar. 8 Vs. Boston College – 6 PM
Pitt has two back-to-back Quad 1 opportunities up next, first at North Carolina, and then at SMU. The Panthers then face two of the lower-rated teams in the league with home games against Miami and Syracuse. Then comes a Quad 2 road game at Notre Dame, followed by Georgia Tech at home, which projects to be a Quad 3 game. After that, Pitt’s likely final Quad 1 opportunity of the year comes against Louisville on the road at the KFC Yum! Center on March 1. The Panthers close the regular season with a road game at NC State followed by a home game against Boston College.
Ken Pomeroy’s analytics project Pitt to lose three of these games and finish the season 20-11, with an 11-9 record in league play. Pomeroy projects North Carolina to beat Pitt in Chapel Hill by four points, SMU to beat Pitt in Dallas by three points, and Louisville to beat Pitt in Kentucky by six points.
Just days ago, the Panthers were -250 to make the NCAA Tournament field, according to Fanduel’s odds.
Now, after losing to Quad-3 opponent Virginia at the Petersen Events Center, the Panthers have lots of work to do to ensure that they are worthy of an NCAA Tournament bid.
